Does anyone have experience with this meter?
It is alot less expensive than other brand (Floscan) and is a much smaller gauge, but the price differential makes me skeptical.
What I'm trying to do is establish my fuel use rate and economy other than by seat of the pants.

I have not seen the Faria gage installed on a boat yet, a quick search looks like the gage is going for approx 200.00.

I have been using the Navman gage for 4 years now. Very accurate and no issues to date, a little bit cheaper also at 150.00.

how are these fuel managers hooked up? do you have to install anything in the actual fuel tank, or does it hook directly into the fuel gauge and/or the tach?

Typically they hook a single flow sensor into the fuel line between the tank and the fuel filter.

The fuel gauge is horribly inaccurate, so it really won't work for this.

I personally just received a Lowrance LMF-400 that also functions as a display for everything else NMEA 2000 in the boat, so that's a nice bonus in addition to the fuel rate.

Erik- What filter/did you put a pre filter between the tank and sensor?
Are you saying that the fuel level sensor compatable with the lowrance guage is inaccurate also? I was considering the Lowrance 200 also.

My stock Faria fuel guage is worthless and to compound this, on my last outing I managed to have a "live" needle to some degree pulling into the marina, yet put 43 gal in my 42 gal tank  double inaccuracies!

Since I know that I have a 42 gal tank per the mfg, and if the fuel flow meter is accurate, I'll be able to determine fuel left in the tank at least. Unfortunately my chartplotter is not NEMA 2000....

What plotter do you have? Simrad makes a NEMA 0183 to NEMA 2000 convertor is worst come to worst.

Dingbat- it's a Garmin 525.
Now if that adapter worked, I'm assuming that a Lowrance 200 would get it's milage (and power) from the plotter, thus computing MPG also? While MPG would be cool and help with cruising efficiency, the total fuel burned will help most with preventing "I gotta get gas now" situation.

If you have a Garmin 525 why not use the Garmin GFS-10 fuel management sensor?

It would give you everything including MPG and you can connect your exsiting fuel sender so you can have digital fuel level indication on your screen as well.

Duh :p
I didn't figure they did that kinda stuff- that's the down side to doing tunnel-visioned web searches.
Thanks for the lead Dingbat!!!
