in-line fuel filter

I am gonna install a in-line fuel filter on my boat. Does it go between the tank and the bulb or the bulb and the motor?

tank and bulb. thats if you are using a fuel/water separating filter. which i highly recommend.

I wasn't planning on it just a regular filter, but I sure will use the water seperator if it is needed.
