I had a problem with some front to bak slop with my prop . I got a bigger thrust washer and not i have no slop but the prob does not seal up with the leg and leaves a space where the exhaust will escape instead of making it out all the way out of the prop. Will this cause a problem?

What kind and size prop? What's your outdrive? Generally, exhaust gases do escape around this area. Can you take a picture? What size of gap are we talking about.

Re: Thru prop exhaust and a space

This is on an yamaha 200 outboard there is about 1 inch of space between the back of the prop and the edge of the foot. This is a 13.5x 21 prop qss i think. So there should be no problem with the performance then I am going to take it out for a test run tommorrow. The only reason I am doing this is I switched from 17 to 21 to get my rpms down from 6200 to 5400 ( i verified the tach) and get my speed up. But the 21 p prop had about a 1/2 inch of slop front to back and I was worrid the slop would hurt the shaft or splines.

So the question is .... IS it better to have a 1/2 of slop where the prop can slide front to back or is it better to have a 1/2 inch gap between the back of the prop and the end of the foot?
