Well I finally have her and have removed the rotted bulkhead that had been poorly replaced by a previous owner (CDX plywood). Bulkhead structure for flying bridge. I was going to replace bulkhead with Teak Laminate 3/4" Probably 1/8" teak on both sides. Mechanic who was helping me with something on the boat gave his opinion that I would not be happy with the laminate and should fiberglass plywood from Home Depot. Reasons: (1) Minimize upkeep. (2) strength. I want to stay with the spirit of the original which was probably teak--cannot afford today and thought the Laminate would be more affordable.
Husband want to glue harwood flooring to plywood. I think that would be just as much upkeep as the laminate teak (if not more). He is handy and can do the fiberglass work but prefers to work with wood. He's great at ripping out and repairing but not the mundane of maintenance. I like to think I would keep up with it---but have had some health issues.
The teak laminate is $215.00/sheet (ouch). Freight transport is probably going to kill me.
Looking for opinions.
Someone told me on previous thread (when I was considering buying this boat) that "renovation is not for the faint of heart". I was so sure of myself, but did have a "little" heart attack 3 weeks ago. LOL I need my boat in the water!
