I installed the alternator but now the fuel pump runs only when the ignition is in the start position. The engine runs for about a minute, bogs down and dies as if out of gas. I noticed that the pump does not run when the iginition switch is in the run position. I tested for current in the run postion and got nothing however I did get a reading when momentarily turning the engine over. I checked the fuel pump fuse (7.5) and any other fuse I could find and reset the circuit breaker and it still has no power in the run position. Not sure what to check next.
No but it had a VP sticker and it is a Valeo. The outfit deals with Marine alternators but that really doesn't mean anything.
No voltage on green however I did get it on the purple. The engine runs for only seconds now so I'm wondering if the fuel pump is even working despite getting voltage in the start position.
I jumped the fuel pump and the engine runs great! Still no voltage to the green wire and the choke still gets hot. I will be returning the alternator despite the shops statement that the alternator is OK. I also note that the battery had only 4volts so I wonder if the alternator had drained the battery. Good thing I had a new battery.
Replaced the rebuilt alternator with a brand new one and it runs great although the choke still gets hot. I have temprarily disconnected the hot wire until I pick up a new choke.
