Hopefully I am posting this in the right area. If not please direct me to the appropriate forum.

I have a Mercury Optimax Sportjet. For the past 3 weeks I have had the low oil warning going off. There was still smoke when I started it up and both oil tanks are full. I assumed the oil level sensor was bad and so did the mechanic so we replaced the sensor. I took it out yesterday and ran for about five minutes, shut it off and then started it again. When I started it the second time the alarm went off again. I am now concerned as there is minimal smoke when starting it (about as much smoke you get from exhaling a cigarette). Could this be the module that is bad? How can I cut off the oil injection system and mix the oil myself? is this ok to do until I get to the root of the problem?

Thanks in advance for any help with this!

Anytime you question the oil injection it's good insurance to run premix in it, it's cheap insurance until you get to the root of the problem!

Honestly - I'm not real familiar with the Opti's oil injection system - so I'm sorry that I can't be of more help with it...I just think no info from me is better then bad info from me!
I'm familiar with the carb models oil injection, but I believe the Opti's are very different.
Someone else should weigh in here soon I'd think.

yeah i just word on another forum that adding oil straight to the gasoline in the optimax can gum everything up. thanks for taking a swing at it tho.

If i am getting smoke when I start it up, i should feel comfortable that I am getting oil, right?

yes, if you get smoke you're getting oil.

Depending on what year that Opti is this seems to be a fairly common thing with some of them. I don't remember where I read about it, but if you google it you should find some more info.

Hi ` i`m also new to the post . i have a similar problem . I bought a 1997
searay jetboat with a 175 h.p. mercury . the guy told me that one day
he made a sharp turn and the low oil alarm started beeping . he said the tanks were about 1/4 full when it happened. ever since it happened it keeps beeping on and of . but the boat seems to run fine. he said he checked with a mechanic and they said the alarm needs to be reset does that sound right ? can the alarms be reset ?
