(2007)225 hpdi yamaha has (only) 11psi @4000rpm to wot! This is obviously a newer motor and used to have 20-23psi @ above rpms.Took boat to dealer and they replaced water pump and told me problem was solved.Problem still exists..would like to clean "Poppit"? valve myself but not sure where to find it on motor and proper prodedure.Do have a SeLoc 1997-2003 Yamaha repair manual and have read a few post with same problem:Just a little more info from the experts on location and proper procedure. Also any comments on wether this is the next thing to check or not would help. Also (verified) that water gauge on boat [is]working and accurate.Thank-you! for the help guys!

I would double check the pump installation, did the impeller get replaced or the entire pump kit?
to access the poppit valve requires removal of the driver assy and the ECU. its not difficult just time consuming.
has anything been added to the hull or any modifications of the engine mounting height?

There has not been anything added to hull or mods to engine height. The tech rep where boat was purchased(And did recent water pump install) led me to beleive he could NOT find anything wrong with water pressure.told me to watch pressures on gauge...and to not let drop below 11psi and run it! Just cant do that myself...I wrote down the 20-23 psi above 4000 rpm to wot when boat was brand new (aprox 17 months ago).I was told by a couple of fishing buddies how important correct water press is.I wanted to find out more about cleaning the poppit valve before taking back to dealer tech.(Would never want to tell the tech what to check next...Im a AC Controls tech NOT a Marine Outboard tech)Maybe try to clean valve this Sat.I would like to find out where I LOST 10psi @ the 4000rmps and above.
THANKS! for the reply and info!

Found white gritty paste(small amount) on spring and rubber grommet on poppit valve, cleaned good and put back together.Put boat back on the water and found that I STILL have same problem(nothing higher than 10psi water pressure above 4000rpm).A little disappointed....thought the gritty paste would have been the problem! Looking to replace BOTH thermostats next?

Re: 2007 yamaha 225 hpdi vmax low water pressure above 4000rpm!

Problem fixed....water pressure back to normal 20-22psi above 4500rpm to WOT.1st want to thank RODBOLT again!....He had this problem pegged from (day 1).My Yamaha dealer (only) installed new impeller for water pump.... 2nd time they installed (WHOLE NEW WATER PUMP KIT).Found TSATS to be clean and working, poppit valve did have small amount of gritty sand as mentioned above...boat was (on the water tested) after new water pump kit install and problem solved. The (2) things I have learned here is 1)ALWAYS install a whole water pump kit vs. just the impeller...2)Put the boat (ON THE WATER) to get accurate true water psi pressures...with motor in a water tank or just useing LAPTOP info is NOT good enough. I hope this helps a few others out with the same trouble.

Re: 2007 yamaha 225 hpdi vmax low water pressure above 4000rpm!

I have a 2007 Yamaha HPDI 200 and I am reading 10-11 psi WOT. I replaced the entire water pump, impellor, plates, gaskets correctly. I checked the T-stats both were clean and closed, I tested the gauge it works fine since it was just replaced, flushed out all hoses, checked poppit it did have a paste like substance on it so I cleaned it and still low pressure. I fished a tourney on the Winter Haven Chain when the canals were way too low and after that it has not been the same. Does anyone have any idea or suggestions on what to do???
