1996 Evinrude 9.9 WOT only 3500 RPM

Have 1996 Evinrude 9.9 very good motor have had for aprox 5 years,never any problems. Last week while going to a weigh in at a local tournament motor went from normal 5200 RPM to 3000 rpms @ WOT. Carb removed and checked looks clean, nothing in bowl, looks spotless. New Plugs installed, compression 105 both cyl, checked screen at fuel pump clean. Any suggestions????

check the timing cam and the roller on the carb,I cant remember all the configations of all the yrs.but the piece under the flywheel(timerbase)may have a plastic cam type piece that could have broken,or the throttle roller could have an issue

Thanks mike checked roller cam, and it is fine, Im wondering if it can be electrical, like a powerpack? Thank for your suggestion it was a good one.

Know this is a late post but a Power pack cured problem, motor runs like a champ!!
