Hi, Great site, first time posting here.
I just bought my first (used) 16' fibreglass boat with console steering. I had her out on the water and found these problems...
1) The steering is very stiff, it's like trying to park a 1972 Dodge Dart without power steering!
2) Engine was very loud (expected) but it has no speed, my friend has a 8HP tiller aluminum boat and she's quicker then my 50 HP. I was the only one on the boat and I had no other gears other than my safety, the gas tank was only a quarter full.
Before I purchase the boat, I asked the owner if the boat can pull my 13 years old son on a tube, he said no problem, I can even pull two kids with the 50 horse. But now she's going 5 mph full speed.
I was talking to a guy at the marina and he said my boat should go at least 25 mph. What should I do? Did I buy a lemon?
