I am new to Mercruiser and have a question....

Where should the water EXIT the outdrive....???

I picked up ski boat project with a 5.0GM/alpha I.
Engine runs great (now), but didnt pump water so I installed an impeller kit.
Now I have water circulating, and exiting through two small holes at the bottom of the transom... is this correct?
Exhaust also exits the prop, but just a bit of "spray" comes out there...
Water coming from transom holes is warm.

This is all with outdrive hooked up to water hose...
Thanks,
Allen

When the boat is idling the majority of the water comes out of those holes. When running at higher speeds exhaust pressure increases and forces a lot of the water down out the the prop. From your description, I would say that the boat is functioning properly.

yep, water should exit the two idle relief ports close up to the transom + exit the center of the prop. if ya have a little hole starboard side down low in the ft. of the bullet on the lower, water exits there too. 1 drives have this. don't know about alpha1's. the water should be warm as it's water that's done doing it's cooling job and is on the way out after going through the block.
if, when ya did the impeller. and the old one was all broke up. ya should try and go find as many pieces of the old impeller that ya can. i understand that if not cleaned up good, that some of the pieces can make their way into the block and possibly block water flow......

good that ya got it hooked up to water. never run it w/o first turning on the water hose....
