OMC Drive Questions

Hello,
New to the forum, but been reading for awhile now
I recently aquired a new chris craft, and have a couple questions.
After reading here a great bit it seems I have a cobra sx drive, Is this
true? I know I need a factory manual and I,m looking but a few things caught my attention.
First shift cable thats visible with drive up is chewed up and outer steel core is rusty. It appears I don't have a lower shift cable but it is all one piece to control is this true or did I miss something?

Second u-jont bellows look brand new,but exhaust bellow could look better.
can this wait till fall?

third- wasn't sure about fill procedure cause I thought I had a OMC built drive, so I brought it to a local guy to have drive oil changed and he said the o-rings on the drain and fill screws "looked good" I assume he didn't have new ones. I should probably take care of that, right?

fourth Confused about parts. I see all sorts of parts for 93 and older cobra drives and parts for volvo drives but not much for the cobra sx. Who is better to source parts from? Does anyone have a good supplier?

The drive you have is basically the same as the Volvo because it was made during the joint venture years. It should be filled like a Volvo is filled which is from the bottom and you should always change all 3 o-rings when you change the drive oil.

Your shift cable is one piece and goes from your helm control all the way to the drive. If you need a new cable, you should check what ends you have at your control. You more than likely have the OMC ends at the helm and the standard type 33 end at the drive.

On that site it is a volvo manual for the SX-HU I will be ordering correct?
Is it true there's no impeller in the drive? I have a belt driven pump on the engine. Just trying to gather parts while the manual comes, and make this boat water ready. The end of the shift cable on the drive looks like a sideways nut that threads on with a clip, I don't know about the helm control will fast eddies make a new cable with measurements?

Nope, no impeller in the drive. The belt driven pump does the same as the old OMC drive pump.
As far as your control goes, I think OMC also used the Volvo style helm control with the 33 end on both ends of the cable.

BTW, here is a link to the Volvo service manual for the SX and DPS drives. No need to by one unless your really want to.

As far as your control goes, I think OMC also used the Volvo style helm control with the 33 end on both ends of the cable.

Check for this before you buy your cable. I had the OMC style ends with a 97 Volvo drive with a Volvo control. The cable comes in foot increment lengths. Your cable may even have the size marked on the side of it. Get the Teleflex extreme cables. They are very nice.

I went to the barn and looked. the helm control just looks like a brass pin that goes in a hole on the control with a small cotter pin. The back looks like a nut that threads on with a hole and a cotterpin. I also found the foot markings are on there 15'. Also noticed no shift cable bellow, runs through a hose to a higher location, seems pretty simple. I really appreciate all the help.And thanks don for the manual, got another day's worth of boat gas now.

Looks like omc at control,
and if those universal ends are threaded, thats what it looks like on the drive.
