Re: force tile trim manual release?
Most units I have seen do not have manual releases. I have only one (tilt only unit) which does have a manual release.
However: All power tilt and trim units have a set of check valves both within the tilt cylinder and within the pump. These valves hold the cylinders in position BUT---The release valves in the tilt cylinder allow it to kick up if you hit something hard. Because of this, if you yank really hard on the lower unit, it will eventually move. It's not easy, but it can be done.
Since the tilt has two solenoids and since either can fail and affect either direction, it is easier to simply replace both solenoids.
These are standard solenoids and cost about 17 bucks each in an electrical supply store. I have mentioned numerous times that these solenoids can be found in junkyards in Buicks, Fords, and Chevys. The only difference is that the auto solenoids do not have a mounting flange--small sacrifice for a visit to the junkyard. Pick upa half dozen to have extras on hand.
Every time I visit the junkyard, I get bulbs, fuses, and solenoids. Adds up!
