rpm-ing out!!!

hey all i got a 50 hp johnson outbord, just back from a 4 hour tour.... i found at the end of our trip the motor rpm's went high and we wernt moving.... the tilt\trim was as low as it would go and still found it reved up high then would go ....??? anyone have any idea ... thanks in advance.

You have spun the prop hub. It's the rubber bushing in the prop. Take it to a prop shop and they can fix it up for under $50.00 usually..

One thing I have noticed if I get a good size patch of seaweed (I think its actually called coon tail here in the fingerlakes) stuck on the lower unit. It will act the exact same as a slipping hub due to ventilation of the prop. If it does it again check to see if there is any wrapped around the front of the lower unit. Its most likely a slipped hub, but its cheaper to double check.

I wonder what you could have repaired at any outboard shop for under $50.00?

Prop shop, not outboard shop. But yeah, I hear ya.

THANKS GUYS ! there was a crap load of seaweed out there ... the prop is brand new ,like the first trip out with it ...ill give a look at it though thanks again all.
