I am having trouble with my Evinrude. After it warms up it floods. There is a hole above and on the right side of the choke(between and slightly below the low and high speed adjusting nobs) that just pours out gas and floods the engine. Is it my fuel pump, my carb or the leaf valves? I took apart the carb. The float, needle and everything looked almost new. No rings around the needles and the float was set correctly. I will disconnect the gas line when it is happening and it will continue to pour out(while I try to start it, not before I start cranking) until there is no fuel left in the line before the carb. When it stops pouring out it starts to run again. I am also having a little trouble with the coil ground wires. They are so close to the flywheel that I had one rub off the plastic and short out on the flywheel. Any tips? I put some electrical tape on the wire to hold it against the coil.

That hole is the vent. The float is supposed to rise to the proper level and shut off the flow through the inlet needle and seat (float valve). It obviously is not doing it. Your job is to figure out why. Bad needle & seat? Dirt in the N&S? Float level not set correctly? Float not floating (soaked up gas and got heavy)?

Something is fishy about the coil ground wires. They shouldn't be sticking up. They lay flat against the laminations, under one of the coil mounting screws.

However, often somebody not knowing any better will install the coil and condenser wires so they stick up and rub. You are supposed to install them more or less horizontal so they don't stick up so high. And tuck the coil wire back so it doesn't rub on the flywheel hub or cam.

Thanks for the help. I must have missed something when I looked at the float and needle valve. I'll check out why the ground wires on my coils want to stick staight out and have too much slack making it difficult to make the wire hug the coil.
