1985 140hp starter bendix gear (Photos)

I think this needs replacing dont you ???
Question...can I just get the bendix gear or does it come as a "package" with the starter ????
If so I will just make one as the starter is working fine.
It still engages and starts fine but I think I am running "close to the line" right now.
Any thoughts ????

You can get a new drive assembly, part number 0385949, and is about 30 bucks. Doesnt look too bad, although my eyes are sore tonight.

It is still working fine and has looked like that for the last 3 years, however I feel it is time to change it as it annoys me to look at it each time I take the hood off !!!!!

I've got one that has looked like that for 15 years. Still cranks everytime.

I feel a little warmer and fuzzier about it after hearing that.
