My 1980s 3 hp johnson has great compression on both cylinders, gets spark from both plugs, and I just soaked the carb in gas to clean it. Still won't start. Any suggestions?
Cleaning the carb in gas won't get the job done. Use carb cleaner , spray and/or dunk type, followed with compressed air through all openings. A carb rebuild kit will provide all the replacement parts to do the job right.
Using a spray bottle filled with fuel mix, spray fuel mix directly into the carb throat and pull the starter rope. If the motor runs for a few seconds, clean the carb as outlined above.
Thanks I'll try spraying mix into the carb. This may be it or it could be for my 25. j25r?ETS. The guy I got it from said 80s maybe it isn't did they make 3s in the 90s or 70s? Any other suggestions on what it could be?
