Mercury 115 1992 soleniod sticks when it sits for awhile. Also, once engaged, the first couple revolutions, its slow like a very cold engine, than it spins freely.
Tryed to remove starter but two of the bolts are so tight the heads are starting to round. Any suggestions?

Re: Merc.115 sticky soleniod

Sky, Are you talking about the starter solenoid, or the choke solenoid? The cure for a sticky solenoid (of either type) is to replace it. The starter solenoid is seperate from the starter, so tight starter bolts should have no effect.

BTW - the trick to take off tight bolts without rounding them is to use a good quality box wrench, and make sure it is seated properly on the bolt, before loosening it. Spray the bolt with some penetrating oil as well. You may also use a good quality six point socket to loosen tight bolts. Last resort is a pipe wrench.
