I bought a 1986 110 v4 johnson 2 months ago. I started doing a tune up. Put in new carbunetors, fuel pump, hoses, spark plugs, etc. I cranked it up and it idled fine but had a little smoke. I took it to lake and ran it I noticed it woudn't exceed 2500 rpm or come out of the water. I checked the plugs all had spark, but noticed the top left/right bank look like they have oil/gas burn condensation, the botton left/right bank look new. I have checked compression and all 4 are at 100 psi, also the bottom 2 smell of gas/oil. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

did you put new carbs on it on new kits in the carbs? did you clean the carbs, removing all the jets and cleaning them separtately. sound like you are only getting 2 cylinder running.

Chances are the clean plugs are not firing.

You need to check spark on all cyl's.
