Hey Rodbolt, I have found a lot of info that you have posted on this subject but not specific to my issue. I have a pair of early 90's(1991 in think) 130 Yamahas. The oil injection system was removed some time ago by a previous owner. Well this summer I have been getting alarm and RPM reduction I assume from an oil issue(Water temps are fine and I have replaced sensors). This is on the port motor. The problem is intermitten. The wiring on the Tachs have been altered so that they read full oil (the arrow is over the full oil symbol).

The problem had gotten so bad about three weeks ago that i could not use the boat. I started tracing wires from the old oil plugs still on the motor and found the only one that went to the computer(black box on back of motor with coils) was a yellow wire. I figured this was the wire that sent signal to the computer to shut down. Cut and capped the wire up by computer and the problem was gone.......until yesterday I got it twice. DAMN! As soon as I bring RPMs back down the alarm goes out I can bring motor up to speed again.

The plug on tank side of motor has the following wires - blue, black, brown, yellow, green/red, yellow/red, green/black.

Two plugs on the other side of motor has the following wires:

BLACK PLUG- brown, blue, red/black and black

GREEN PLUG - yellow, yellow/red, green/black. green/red

The two harnesses that go into the computer on back of the motor have the following wires-

Bigger harness- brown, black, yellow(the one I cut), pink, white, green, grey/black, blue/red

Smaller harness that comes from other side black box into the back computer - white/green, white/black, white/red, and white/ yellow

Do you have any ideas what could be causing this? I'm at a loss now. Thought I had the problem solved!! I had a inboard Mako for years....could just about rebuild that old 351 Ford with my eyes shut. I'm new to outboards dont have any experience with them! Thanks for your time.... I'll take any ideas or suggestions you have!! Mike

first is to quit whacking wires.
just put the cutters down :)
either the red wire from the engine tank has shorted or the switch is acitvating.
unplug the engine tank,on the engine side of the harness jump the white to black, this will command the pump to stay off.
you can also remove the oil contol mudule completely. that old system can get flakey and if the module is failing it can tell the CDI to go into RPM reduction.
if I get a chance Ill try to refresh my memory on the antiques, however I have a dentist appt today so it may be a bit.

Ha ha ha!! Step away from the cutters!! I'm at a loss and really thought I had it. The tank has long been gone. All I have left are the plugs. The plug on the tank side of the motor has no red wire. I assume that it is the old oil tank plug. It has blue, black, green/red, yellow/red, green/black, brown and yellow. Now here is something that I forgot to add. I removed what i was told is the oil control module earlier this summer when I first got the alarm. It is a black box about 3"x4" with two sets of wires(yellow, black, brown, pink). If this has been removed can I still get an oil alarm and RPM drop? If not what direction should I look? Thanks for your help on this! I really do appreciate it. Hey and good luck at the dentist.....Your dentist isnt Jimmy Woodson by chance? I believe his office is in Manteo. I went to school with him and his sister. Mike

Hey Rodbolt I have been assuming this is an oil alarm, could it be a temp alarm? I have had the temp sensors unplugged and still got the alarm so I figured it was oil alarm. Is there somewhere else I could be getting overheat alarm from? I have water temp guages that show cool and you can lay your hand on the heads after running so its not running hot. Just thinking out loud...thanks, Mike

Re: Calling RODBOLT! Need help Yamaha oil alarm

Draglink, what did you do to fix your alarm problem?

I have a 2000 Yamaha 115HP 2 stroke which is sounding an alarm and going into limp mode. The alarm does not sound with the engine off and ignition switch on. After my boat technician concluded the oil control module was faulty. He suggested and I agreed to convert the engine to premix, as he stated his conversion would remove the entire oil injection system including the oil control module. Well, I will not say the conversion was a mistake but it was unnecessary because the alarm and limp mode problem continues. The technician checked the overheat system by temporarily disconnecting the overheat sensors while the alarm and limp mode were activated with no change thus concluding the problem is not overheat related. Also all the dash gauges were temporarily disconnected thinking a gauge may have been shorting with no correction noted. He now thinks the problem maybe the cdi but he would not rule out a short somewhere in the wiring system.
Can I test the cdi unit by unplugging the limp mode wire? Or is there another way to test the cdi short of replacement?
Does anyone know which wire/s going into the cdi set the limp mode? Any ideas would be appreciated.
