remote plug in for trolling motor?

I have a 16 ft. aluma-craft I just installed a front deck in it. What I need to do is install a remote plug in something simple. And need to know what guage wire to run from battery to plug in, Span is about 5 ft. The trolling motor is a minn kota endura 12v.

use 8, you won't regret it. don't forget the circuit breaker.

I think I will go with 6 awg. and a circuit breaker, with a big foot control. Does this sound acceptable? Wanting to get back out on the water been down to long.
