Hi,

I have recently purchased a 14'McKee Craft Aruba with an '86 Evinrude 40 HP engine; the model is E40EL CD. It originally had oil injection, but that has been by-passed. The engine does not have trim/tilt. My question is this, "Does this engine charge the battery when running?" There is no ammeter/voltmeter instrumentation.

Any help would be appreciated.

it charges enough to maintain the starting battery. if you are planning on a lot of electronics, lights radio, trooling motor, you need to buy a deep cycle battery to run the accessories. be sure you have a rope to start the motor is you elect not to use the second battery.

Thanks Tashasdaddy,

I thought that was the case. I plan on adding a deep cycle battery and a battery selector switch. I will be using a depth finder and trolling motor which I will run off of the deep cycle battery.

I appreciate the assistance,

You might also consider a small solar trickle charger (works well for me).
