How can I find out if a lower unit will exchange with mine? I can't seem to find the answer on my own.

I have a Johnson RDS-25 and an opportunity to buy a lower unit off of an RDS-27. I believe those years are 1963 and 1965. How can I determine if the units are interchangeable?

Thanks.

They are. There is a possibility the drive shaft and shift rod could be the wrong length if one or both of them have been converted to long/short shaft, which happens often because it is so easy to do.

Actually, the current one is long and the prospect is short. As long as I'm replacing, I wanted to go to a short shaft. The prospect includes the water tube, drive shaft, and shift linkage, so I should have everything. Thanks for the help.
