I've had my 15' 72 Scott Engineering fiberglass boat for about 5 years now.The other day I ripped out all the carpet as it was original and looked 36 years old.I'm not a boating fanatic, paid $1100 for boat, motor, trlr etc.

What should I use for all new carpet that won't break the bank, I'm thinking the indoor/outdoor "grass" but that may be a little bit too tacky even for me.

Also, the insulation on the inside of my 1972 Johnson is history, any new ides on quiting it down?

TIA,
Jim C

Re: Carpet and Insulation

I redid a buddies boat awhile ago and he went to Lowes/Menards and got some low pile outdoor carpet that worked really well.

When I first got my boat it had the most God awful brown astro turf on it, it was horrible, couldn't get it off fast enough.

It is thin so it is easy to work with and dries fast when it gets wet and they have a bunch of different colors.

Do you have any pics of the new carpet job? I have been thinking about redoing the carpet in my Suncruiser but am not set on what kind yet.

Nope, no pics, a pontoon should be pretty easy aside from unbuilding the boat to get to it.

With that one I did there were alot of storage doors and corners to deal with.

Used to work at Suncruiser Years ago when they were in New Paris Indiana, then we got bought out by OMC moved to Elkhart and then OMC sold the building and moved everything to there to the Syracuse Sea-Nymph plant and offered me a generous $8 per hour pay cut so I moved on, they went under shortly after that.

Was there from 87 to 94-95

I was just curious about the carpet itself. Putting it in seems pretty easy I was just wondering how the carpet looked and worked. With all of the "unbuilding" needed to do it I do not want to do it every year.

Oh, I did it probably 3 years ago, he leaves it sit outside and it still looks good.

He went with grey so fading isn't an issue but it was outdoor house carpet so it should hold up really well.
