The trim control, which is mounted in the throttle control will trim down but will not trim the prop up. The trailer control will raise the prop it's full up position though. I think the only thing that is wrong is that the contact points on the throttle control are burned or corrided and not making contact. How do I get to the switch itself. I need to take the throttle handle apart to do that, but it has me stumped.

our alpha one drive only tilts up for trim, after a certain point you need to use the "trailer" button. I find it cumbersome, but I'm not gonna change it. Make sure your lower unit is all the way down, then try trimming up.

While possible the switch in your control handle is bad, I really doubt it.
More likely in the trim limit switch on the gimbal ring.

I agree completely. I have never seen a dead trim switch (control handle), but every second boat have a bad trim limit switch (gimbal housing). Although not sanctioned by Merc, all I do is make a short jumper wire with a couple of male bullet connectors on the ends and link out the offending switch. That will give you back the 'up' function in the control handle, but be aware that you no longer have a 'limit' function and can trim the leg all the way out with the the up button.
