Please help a newbie. I started looking at boats, and reading reviews online. I read the reviews on 07 bayliner 175 for $10k and got all excited, but when you go to the dealer it's $14k. Why is that ? 09 is out already. What would be equivalent to a Chevy or cadillac after 2 years you loose half of the value, but still good cars. Any tips or advice on buying a boat. Any suggestion. Thanks in advance....

Good luck, lots of help and lots of opinions. Have you tried our search function? Have you been to any boat shows and just looked at different styles and models? Do you have friends who own a boat you like?

One of our moderators, Tashasdaddy has a "buying new boat" checklist that will show up on the search.

Have you considered a boat club to help get your feet wet at someone elses expense?

It's been over twenty years since I bought my last new boat, but someone will be sure to tell you not to trust old boats while someone else will tell you don't take the big financial hit on a new boat. :)

So, try searching our forums, we have had about a half dozen new boaters recently ask for suggestions.

Welcome aboard and good luck....

My 2 pennies but you may want to look at a used boat for your first one.

Lots to learn on the water and it would be better to tear up an older boat instead of a new one then once you get the hang of it step up to a new one.

Also you may decide you don't like it and it would be easier to get out from under an older used boat.

Something to think about.

dealer mark up.............find out what you want in a new bliner and order it from i boats !

find td's (the above mentioned list) boat buying list...and read it about 5 times....ask your self some hard questions....then figgure out what you want.

the bay liners are entry level boats......if propperly taken care of...they will last a long long time....a super investment at 12 k....

(run from the older ones)

a really good boat is a chris craft....searay....four winns chaperell. the 4 winns and the sea ray are a little cheeper than the chris or the chap....all will hold value and have a good resale

I agree with 5150 im also a new boater myself and between docking anchoring and my buddies im glad i dont have a new boat.cuz those skuffs sure would be ugly now they just blend in with rest lol.I primarly use mine for fishing also and a good day of fishing will trash a boat.

i am a huge believer in starting with a smaller used boat......

why smack the dock with a new chris craft?
