I have a mid 1960s 5.5hp evinrude, it runs fine but has less power than I think it should. The prop is the standard 2 blade highly curved original equipment prop. Would a 3 blade prop make it go faster without putting to much strain on the motor and if yes what size and model should I get.
Any recommendations?

Re: Evinrude 5.5hp Prop

No a 3 blade isn't likely to help and will be difficult to find.Prop is a 8 X 71/4
2 blade.Motor can do up to 12 mph in normal, operation.
we had a Bucaneer 5hp ,very similar, on a 12ft flat bottom steel boat.
with a tiller extension it would pop a 180 pounder on plane and and buzz along at darn close to that 12 mph figure.A rounded bottom would be slower but surely would plane. You will need vary careful weight management and placement. And a tiller extension so you can get to the middle seat.
