Hello

we have a Calibogie 15 that we don't have a lot of information about. If anyone out there has any, please let us know!

Thanks in advance!

Specifically:
Weight Empty (w/o motor) ?
Maximum engine size allowed?
Any other interesting info?

Yeah, I know a little, very little . . . They were built here in California hence the name . . . I used to work the boat shows for Caterpillar and there was this dweebish looking guy selling these Calibogies at every show. That was mid thru late 80s. He had greasy hair, parted it on the side and wore a suit . . . always thought he looked out of place . . . I hope that information helps  :p , and hopefully he's not a member and reading this . . . :D

Edit: Maybe this qualifies as "Any other interesting information" . . . :p

Re: Anybody familair with a Calibogie 15?

Bought one in April 1990 and sold it in 2004 (CF 1143 JW)
Decent little inexpensive boat. Put alot of money into it to make it functional for my desired purpose. Had 50HP Force but should have gone with the 90 HP option but it was a money thing. Anyway, added a 50lb thrust Great White trolling motor on the bow, two deep cycle batteries for same, 6hp merc on the stern, VHF radios, (one hand held - surprising how handy they can be) extra tanks. Used it for fishing and several trips to Catalina for diving excursions. Always thought it needed to be four feet longer with more freeboard. With prop torque the way it was I usually sat to starboard for a more even keel. With just me and minimal gear it could do just under 30mph (as per GPS). Not good enough to ski behind but tubes and knee board worked for my young son for a number of years before he got too big. Got rid of it and bought a Starcraft 2015 OB when I retired in 07. Only problem there is, while I got my extra footage and more power, I need help with launch and retrieve. Towed the Calibogie with a Nissan Sentra Wagon until 1993 when that was wrecked and then pulled it with a 93 Dodge Dakota that stayed with me for 16 good years. Was fortunate to have access to much wiring for reworking the electronics. Those nasty little clips they used were for the birds. Went with butt splices and lots of heat shrink after my first couple trips in salt water and experienced corrosion problems. But after that had no real difficulty. Just keep up with impeller changes and you'll be fine. Hope this helped.

Oops, sorry. Neglected to add that they built those boats only for whatever outboard you optioned in for. So it may have stress problems if you repower to a larger outboard. (they were cheap suckers down there at HMS Marine). The 35 and 50 were the same but they used more plywood in the transom for the 90.....just my two cents. Enjoy the boat!

I do enjoy it!

And ski very nicely behind it at 5000' ft elevation. Pulls me up on a single.

I appreciate the information about HMS making the transoms for the specific HP requested. That makes sense of some conflicting information I've come across!

Thanks again!

Re: Anybody familair with a Calibogie 15?

Throw my 2 cents in even though this is an old post. I have a 89 Calibogie I bought in 90. Been a great boat all these years and still looks like new. HMS Marine was in Inglewood Ca. He built a 12.5 version of this skiff and several small sailboats. The previous poster is correct he was a bit of an odd character. I visited the shop and was ready to order a boat in 1989 but he had a 1 year waiting list. Lucky for me I found one in the classifieds. Great boat for Colorado river, lakes and ocean. Because it is so light I liken it to a VW vs a Cadillac. It can get rather bouncy in short chop but does well in ocean swell. I can get it up to 40mph with the stainless prop. I was originally attracted to it because I could pull it with a 4 cyl truck. I have used it for fishing, diving and water skiing. Everyone loves it. HMS offered a trailer upgrade which is a much lower trailer/ It's a white powder coated Shoreline. In later years he only sold the higher galvy version. I can easily launch and retrieve the boat solo. Mine came with a 50hp Calibrea motor made by Suzuki. Only additions I added were a bimini top, stainless boarding ladder, and dual batteries. I would love to upgrade to a 4-stroke but can't justify shelling out the $$.
