too much hp?

I am not a risk taker, nor a go fast type. However, I have chrysler 100hp outboard that I have been tinkering worth, and found it was easier to work on (and move around) bolted to a transom.

So I mounted it on my 1960 Mohawk 15' runabout, rated for up to 80hp. Boy it looks cool on there...so, given that a 1960s V4 Evinrude 80hp weighs nearly the same as this early 80s Chrys 100....how bad do you think it will handle this big motor?

See the pic below. There is no interior in the boat, but when I get the motor running well, I will be very tempted to take one careful water test :)

Thoughts?

i cant tell ya to break the law.....that would be wrong......

the uscg rules have the calculations for hp max rating.....

however....i do beleive there might be "a margine for error" built into the rules ;)

Well, a 20% increase in HP may not catch the attention of the coasties but if you ever got into a boat bumping situation your insurance company may justifiably cancel your claim - and your policy.
You also need to calculate the extra weight. Might be more than the ole' gal can handle. Lots of variables to consider. :(

i think the tourqe on the transom is what you should worry about. since it is an older fiberglass boat.

It looks like you could pull a pontoon until it gets airborne. !

Anyway, thats what the throttle is for. (faster)
