If you are not a power user I have to agree that you will not NOTICE any difference between IE or FF. If you are a power user those add ons extensions are the biggest asset for FF. However, do not load too many of them or you will have problems with the memory size used by FF. Some of those extensions are so successful that the FF developing teams has incorporate them in the newer FF versions.
Even if you are not a power user and you don't use extensions FF is safer than IE as far as exploitation of the shell. At the end, it is down to the user. Use what you prefer and will make your online experience an enjoyable one.

This Is My Opinion As Well!!! So far, I tried Firefox 3 times, and went back to IE7 each timeI have a zillion items in my fav folders, if they were lost like your bookmarks, I think I'd just die!
