Seized Prop Cone

1993 Volvo 7.4 engine with a DP-D outdrive

I have read the forums and found information about removing siezed propellars, but not seized prop cones.

The manual says to put the throttle in reverse. The allows the prop to free wheel to the left. Obviously this means I should be turning the prop cone to the RIGHT to unscrew it, after removing the bolt in the center (which I did).

I've been applying a lot of pressure, but I am afraid I could damage the drive train if I pry any harder.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Keith

The cone turns Counter Clockwise to remove.

Re: Seized Prop Cone

Thanks Don,

That's interesting becasue the resistance afforded by having the drive train engaged would be in the FORWARD position for a "counter clockwise" removal, not REVERSE.

The manual does not mention repositioning the throttle into FORWARD until you get to the propeller removal.

Well, your advice has gotten me this far so, I'll go move the throttle to FORWARD and see what happens when I turn is counter clockwise..

Thanks!
