Suzuki Fuel Hose Routing

Ref Suzuki outboard motor DF60/70 four stroke service manual, fuel vapor separator, pg 11-12 (lower left). Diagram shows 3 connections on top-inlet, outlet, and evaporation. I'm unsure where the evaporation hose (top of separator) connects. I've been told it dangles and does not connect anywhere. When I look at my hose it has a clamp and bulges as if it did connect somewhere. Engine problem is motor starts, difficult to set idle and when I try to put in gear it stalls and quits. I've replaced fuel pump, and did not find any kinks in fuel line, pumping squeeze bulb it is fuel of fuel. Injectors squirt fuel. I've not done any electrical checks as that will become a new skill for me. Am I in big problems or overlooking something simple? Monday I had one dock pretty well tied up with my boat trailer and car. The local guide next dock over kept asking "what's wrong with that engine"? I guess he did not know either. Thanks for any help.

Re: Suzuki Fuel Hose Routing

I'm having similar problems with my two-stroke, I've tried almost everthing I finally got it to idle in gear but it won't go above 2500 rpm's at the lake. I am now going to try changing the plugs I bought a manual and noticed I was running the incorrect plugs. I don't know if it matters on four strokes but you might make sure your plugs are the correct ones. have you checked for pin hole leaks in your fuel lines?

I bet what you haven't tried I've tried. I did replace hi pressure fuel pump. It was varnished from sitting so long. won't let that happen again. I believe plugs OK. Find them cheaper at NAPA. Also get oil filters at auto parts store cheaper and to specs. Now I'm suspecting idle air control valve. I can pinch it shut and set idle anyplace I desire. Set at 1000. When I reconnect hose motor dies. I think you are on to something with pin hole leak or deteoriating hose there in IAC valve. If that hose bad will check fuel hoses. Going to replace IAC hose tomorrow. I checked at marina and mechanic said do not clean the IAC valve. You will ruin it (regardless of earlier posted reply). Also going to do continuity check on the neutral safety switch below throttle control arm. I too have the manual but honestly many checks require a wiring harness and computer program to reset sensors to specs. I miss old mechanical fix it way. Thanks for sharing. You may be a mechanical shade tree guy also.

Re: Suzuki Fuel Hose Routing

The hose is connected to the airbox. When you replaced the high pressure fuel pump, did you check the fuel pressure regulator. the regululator sits in the bottom of the VST, if gunk was in the VST, regulator is probley bad. Did you check the fuel pressure after you replaced the pump? The ignition system likes the sparkplugs listed in the owners manual.

Captain, Thanks for reply. I do not know what or where the air box is. Can you be more specific? At present I left the hose dangle--as I do not see any more hook up points. Attaching hose may solve the problem if yo would clarify where to attach. I did soak the pressure regulator in carburetor cleaner for couple hours. Screw holding regulator in was tight!!!!! do not have pressre gauge to check fuel pressure at rail, but removing rail can tell it is under pressure. Don't know how much tho. Have nt used new hose to reconnect IAC valve yet. Would appreciate info on the hose routing tho. I think most ar ok but the one is in ques so I may have something else askew. Thanks, Cadet
