Hi all, My motor just idles for a short tme then stall out.
Sometimes a little spitting and coughing.

Runs well at higher rpms.

I changed the plugs and used BRP liquid tuneup!

It flushed the moter well, idles just a little longer but still spitting, coughing and stalling.

How do I adjust the idle.
Anyone have a photo of the idle screw adjustment location.

Thank you so much.

I'd probably go ahead and bite the bullet and take the carb off, take it apart, and clean it.
However, if you'd like to try it, I believe part #15 on the diagram at this link is the slow speed mixture valve and if you turn it out (counterclockwise) a little you can see if that will help. It does sound like a lean sneeze and a little adjustment might just do the trick. The tuner stuff won't clean the carb jets. You might have good luck with the slow speed mix. adjustment but if it's suddenly giving you problems, your carb. probably could use a good cleaning. Was the motor sitting for a while without being used?

Thank You Very Much jbjennings, the boat has sat, not used much last summer. If the slow speed mixture valve does not work, what is the best way to clean the carb. Is it hard to remove?
I used to soak my auto carbs in gasoline when I was a kid. 1960 and 1970 carbs.
Is it the same? I know there is spray on carb cleaner. will this work on this particular carburator?

Thank you Sir, I really appreciate you input.

Howdy,
If you take it apart, it's no big deal and there's a good chance you won't even need new gaskets, although it's always best to buy a new carb kit. You just need to make sure you've got a good clean place so you don't lose anything. Also, I'd be incredibly careful when trying to get the pitifully wimpy hose off the primer or it will break that tiny plastic nipple off the primer body.... yes, I did it once. It's not that expensive but I hate to have stuff apart and not be able to put it back together quick. Those hoses are probably all hardened and crappy. I'd replace 'em all while you have it apart. They're cheap. Just get a couple of feet of marine grade fuel line the proper inside. diameter and some plastic marine quick ties to hold on the hose nice and tight. I do use that walmart super-tech crap in the spray cans and have had good luck using it to blow out the passages, but I like to get a little piece of very small gauge wire, preferably copper so it won't scratch anything, to help break up any crud or varnish in the passages. Soaking it in gas won't do much, but I broke down and bought a gallon can of that berryman carb cleaner stuff at O'Reillys and it works great to soak 'em in.
I don't think you'll have any trouble at all cleaning it, just maybe some annoying events while getting it off without breaking anything.
good luck,

Thankyou again JBJ, I belive it is the carb. The motor does not have enough hours on it to be somthing else. At least I hope! I will take it off tomorrow and see if I can get it cleaned up and back to working order.

Thank you aagain,

louj
