Just reclaimed my motor from the shop, since they couldn't identify what was causing the engine to die when throttled back below half way.
It is SN-4286902 with Thunderbolt (CDI) Ign and single carb, pull start only, long shaft. Carb perfectly clean, good gas, plenty of spark at all settings, will start on either cylinder or both but only if in gear and throttle at 3/4 or higher.
Interestingly, last week someone brought in an older 20 Hp with different carbs and points ignition that has the same problem and they can't fix it either.
I really need help.
Anyone out there see this problem before and resolve it? I tried the MarineEngine forum without a solution.
Is there someone here or at another forum that I can go to that may have experts I could reach out to?
I want to sell it, but would like to fix it first. Could use some help with timing instructions also since the shop disconnected the advance linkage and left it dangling, so I need to know how to set it.
