Re: Check out this new kind of water sport!!

hmm, kinda have mixed emotions about that one!

I MYSELF personally, would not ride it
heres the things that would concern me
too deep of water- ability to surface for air could be comprimised
inexperience of boat operator- could end badly with improper driver!
submerged obstacles-logs, stumps, sunk boats, sand bars, etc
and mainly BOAT TRAFFIC- the worst thing i could see happening is you surface for air, and get hit by a boat that CANT see a person underwater surfacing for air, similar to something that happens to a manatee

i mean dont get me wrong, im sure its funner than a VW bus full of cheerleaders, but i just see it bieng way too dangerous, esp on a crowded water way

My old man was inventive, but a very poor engineer. He actually made something like this board over 40 years ago. The problem with his design is that it did not have the proper setup to be able to get back to the surface. Once you started going down it would continue until the boat stopped or it hit bottom. Because we were only in 12 feet of water it always hit the bottom. His design was only plywood with an adjustable wing on the front. He never tried to modify it because it wasn't all that great being towed around when you could just snorkel by yourself. He also did not consider other boats although the rope wasn't very long so you would be rather close to the tow boat anyway.

Wouldn't that be illegal. Unless you had a life jacket on?
Then what would be the point?

I don't know if the board works or not, but your video link sent me to a page that downloaded for minutes and then did nothing.

Clicking re-load took me here ...

You say that it is safe because the rope is very short. Would that not mean that the deeper you went, the closer to the spinning prop the rope would be?

Oregon Law (where Im from) states that there must be a life jacket on board the boat for all occupants on the boat or being towed. You dont actually have to have one on unless you are under 12. Not sure about other areas. Also the board makes enough down force to pull down a rider with a life jacket on but its just not as responsive.

I did not get to see it but would give you some feedback if I could get a look at it.

Well here in NV and AZ, anyone being towed must wear a PFD ( I double checked );)
Pretty much takes the fun out of killing yourself with your contraption.

And no, I won't be running down to pick one up when their available.

IF you do get them to market...I predict they will go the same route as those "Flying Rafts" did. Didn't they get pulled off the shelves because of all the lawsuits from people getting hurt/killed?

There....You wanted some feedback.
And I gave you some.

As I mentioned before it still works with a life jacket. It just makes the decent a little slower and the acent faster. In fact I can design future models with this is mind by making the wings larger so there will be little effect. As for your prediction, well I guess you are entitled to make rash jugements about somthing you have never seen or done in person. This is much safer than alot of other extream sports out there.

Well, losing my arms because of DRAG, might be one of them!

As far as my "RASH", judgement.......Never been on one of those "flying Raft's" either.....Just saw the results!!!! That would be....broke.

Now, the above poster's who responded to this, gave their input.....
Which are all valid.

SOOOOOO.

Basically, if you live on a small private lake AND you have an experienced driver....

You MIGHT NOT get hurt?

OR another thought......

Go to the ocean and go trolling with some live bait?

Nuff said on my part!
Good luck on your endeavers.;)
