86 Johnson 150

I have a 86 Johnson 150 v6. it had not been run in 7 years when I got it. ive got it running but it acts like the choke is stuck. will not go over 23 mph. and has do power. I do not know much about outboards, just learn as I go.Any help would be great. Thanks:confused:

Before you even try to run it, clean the carbs. Then change the water pump (change the gear oil while you're there). Remember, your carbs supply oil as well as fuel. Pistons need oil.

I cleaned the carbs. but I might not have done a good enuogh job. I will try that today. Thanks

Did you soak them (if so, in what)? Install new kits?

no. just used carb cleaner. do you think thats whats wrong? I did not do much but spray everything down, make sure all the parts I thought should move ,moved. It started right up. Just has no power

They should be taken completely apart (including removing the jets). soaked and new kits installed. That's the only way to make sure it's done right. Remember, fuel and oil are the life blood. The carbs are what delivers it.
