Ok, I'm a bit embarrassed to ask, but... what is a dual console boat?

Re: Dual Console

Any boat with two consoles. Usually when referring to a boat as a dual console it is considered a salt water fishing type boat with a full windshield and an open bow.

Doesn't have to be a salt water boat, or a fishing boat, there are plenty of fresh water pleasure, fish and ski, and fishing boats out there. Also, you can have dual consoles and not have a walk through windshield. Dual console just means it has a console at the driver station, and on the opposite side of the boat too.

Re: Dual Console

Normally a dual console (separate driver and passenger seats behind a walk thru windshiel to the bow area) not used for fishing is referred to as a bow rider. The designation "dual console" is generally used when speaking of a fish/ski type boat that combines the ability to fish comfortably with the ability to supply seating for passengers on cruises.

Re: Dual Console

Ok, so a basic bowrider (like the Bayliner Capri I own), would be considered a dual console? I thought it meant there were 2 helms...

Re: Dual Console

The bayliner you mention would most properly be referred to as a bow rider. Dual console primarily refers to a walk through windshield with bow seating with fishing capabilities and passenger comfortable seats in the bow. It does not have to have seating. It could just have a fishing platform. A bowrider will generally have carpet whereas a dual console will generally have fiberglas flooring for ease of cleaning. You don't want fish scales and parts in your carpet. Neither has anything to do with two helms.

The designation bowrider means, among other things, that there will always be a dual console (walk thru windshield).

The designation dual console will mean, among other things, that there is a walk through windshield and will be a dual purpose boat for fishing/skiing or cruising.

Some folks use the terms interchangeably but they shouldn't.

Re: Dual Console

Maybe a better way to think of the use of "Dual Console" is to consider a Center console with the console split in half and slid to each side. That way it may be easier to retain the fishboat connection . . .
