I have a boat with a 95 Johnson 28HP motor on it. I was under the helm and saw a buzzer hooked into the wiring cable from the motor. Is this an engine overheat alarm? Is there any way to test the buzzer/sending unit if it is an overheat alarm? Would it be possible to install a light, ie an LED, in the warning circuit that would light up when the alarm sounded?

Yes, yes and yes.

1. Look for a wire (tan), under the engine hood, on the cylinder head. With the key ON (not start) ground harness side of that wire. The buzzer should buzz.

2. You can wire a light in parallel to that circuit.

That is exactly what it is. Test it by grounding out the TAN temp wire on the ignition side of the Pack. The alarm should sound with the key in the ON position.

OOPS too slow! :)

If using an LED, be sure to current limit the LED with a 470 ohm resistor in series to the Tan wire.
