After some LU probs today i got it to work perfect in and out of FWD, N , REV for a good hour of run time .Then I only had FWD ?????I have checked all cables and the shaft linkage to the motor all are working,Though there is water in the gear case.

Tell me you didn't remove the phillips head screws near the oil fill-drain plugs.
What was the original trouble and what did you do to fix it?

I have a '98 115hp,Evinrude that was stuck in fwd. You could rev it or down, but it would only go fwd. On mine there are 2 shift cables, from the shifter to the engine. One is fwd and rev , and the other is the throttle cable (speed). If one of the "stops" on the cable linkage is broke as mine was, you can replace that individual cable. This happens where the shifter mounts to the side of your boat. Cannot be seen with out removing the shifter. However you can check the travel, (operation), at the engine. Since this involved some extensive r&r, I replaced both cables while I had it apart. Good luck.
