My boyfriend and I have an old bayliner rendevouz that we love, but it's starting to break down alot. We have recently started deep sea fishing with friends in the gulf and the Keys. We really like it and have decided to buy a fishing boat, but I also have children ages 3 and 12. He wants a fishing boat w/ a cuddy cabin, I don't think we will use it at all. I would rather have a center console. We just went to a boat show and I think they were trying to pass off a bay boat as an offshore boat as the gunnels were low. We like the 23-24' polars and tritons, but have no basis for comparison on price. What do you think that size would/should run for a brand new one? Also not opposed to a repo or one about 1-2 years old if in good shape. We just have no idea on price and I don't want to get ripped off. The polar center console we looked at, at the boat show was around $50,000. It might have been a 22', can't remember We want to fish offshore but also use it in rivers and lakes for casual trips etc. He worries about the lack of cover for the kids, is there a way to have cover when needed in a center console? I know I have lots of questions. Thanks.

The bow section of a center console can be fitted with a dodger. Which is a canvas contraption like a popup tent. If this bow space is just for the kids then you could have a canvas shop make up a snap-on cover for the bow. I'm told kids love this as their private "house".

Besides Polar there are other modest priced brands. Here are links to more threads that kick the various brands around -

Wow! I'm surprised there were no more responses here???

Anyways, for more thoughts on the Polar brand, run a Google search on "Polar boats" "opinions"

Well I call tell you bout boats for lakes in Northern Ontario, but when it comes to salt all I can say is I hate driving my car on salted roads in the winter. Now you want some advice on SKI-DOO sleds and how to do 100 mph on a frozen lake. That I can do....
