I have an old 1977 Crest Pontoon. I am considering scrapping the aluminum in the tubes due to lack of interest in selling the whole unit. I considered taking off my Evinrude 25hp that runs great and selling it seperately. Just wondering if anyone knows what the actual weight of the tubes is? I was told that the scrap yard would give me $.50 per pound of clean "sheet" aluminum, which is what they call a tube. I could get $.85 for the railing tubing. Anyone have any helpful information on this? I dont like the idea of scrapping a perfectly good boat, but if the scrap price was right, I would consider it. It would save me having to sell the old girl. Oh by the way, I bought a 23 foot Wellcraft so thats why I am selling my old toon.

IMO, figure out what its worth in scrap and sell it for that complete (minus motor?).

It will save you a headache of dissasembly etc..

Re: Anyone scrap their old pontoon?

If you take just the tubes in you will get alot more money but if there is one little peice of anything that isn't aluminum they will cut the price.

And if you have panels in the railing, that is 2 different kinds of metal so they cut the price.

In short to make it worth your while you would have to disassemble the boat down to like kinds of aluminum, sheet, painted and extrusion but if they used aluminium cross members those would be extrusion which pays more.

Almost seems like a draw, you would get as much selling it as you would in scrap I think.

You can also remove the logs and sell them on ebay. Tons of people are looking for logs and if they are in good shape you will make more on them that way.

I would however just list the toon and sell it as is. Saves you a lot of work and somebody will buy it.

Or maybe they were buying all the alum for the stadiums..... eh well.

Why can’t anyone just answer the question. A lot of Captain Obvious- remarks on this site if you haven’t done it-why waste everyone’s time? Just answer the question if you have scrapped your pontoon.
