Water hose? for tell-tale 150 Johnson

I've adjusted my tell-tale just about every way possible in effort to see it spray up when moving. However, it deflects off the cowling and spays backwards even when positioned upwards. Have any of you ever justed repalced it with a piece of garden hose, plugged the end, and poked a smaller hole facing upwards to improve visablity? It is threaded the same. Iknow that it seems practical, just wanted to know if anyone has tried this.

I have an OMC quick connect plug in the telltale port on the rear of the motor. It has a hole drilled in it that allows the telltale to be adjusted. I have mine facing the starboard side of the boat. I can see it from the drivers station.

Can we assume you have a 60* 150?

I believe I have the same, a 13/16 nut over a positionable tell-tale. I'm ust not getting those results. I'll be on the lake all weekend and I'll mess with it some more.
As far as the degree 60/90, I'm clueless. Its a 91
J150GLEIS Fast Strike SiverStar.

It know it should work if I do this but I also think that there might be a proper amount of restriction on the flow.

Yes, that's a 60 degree looper. If you're trying to get it to spray straight up like a jet ski, I doubt it'll happen. Plus you don't want a spray where it might get sucked in the hood where it may get injested.

Most folks do as described above - adjust it to spray out to one side. If it's not visable (some part of the boat obstructs the view) then a water pressure gauge is probably the best answer. You should have one anyway. Very simple to install.
