1992 90HP stator or Rectifier

My Merc stopped charging so I replaced the rectifer. And it is still not charging.

I tested the rectifier. There is no continuity between any of the terminals. This might be OK as an ohm meter may not produce enough voltage for the test.

Does anybody know the stator test? Or is the stator faulty?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply!

My rectifier has no ground. I preformed the test that did not require a ground for your document.... AC to DC terminal tests.

I believe 'ground' means touch the lead to the block to ground it

Re: 1992 90HP stator or Rectifier

On a factory rectifier with (3) connections, the Fourth connection (Ground) is made thru the case or mounting "tab".

If you have another type of aftermarket replacement or generic bridge rectifier with (4) connections, one of them is the (-) connection and must be grounded to the engine block. This is typically done with a lugged wire under the screw or bolt that holds the rectifier to the metal mounting bracket/plate/engine block.

So, your rectifier has a ground, one way or another, or it couldn't work! Maybe that's the problem??

Anyway, if it doesn't pass all the tests, it's bad, even if it's new. Probably a good idea to test a new component like this prior to installation, anyway. Then if it shows bad you can return it and honestly say you never even hooked it up and it was bad.
