I have a 2004 6HP Johnson outboard motor I purchase used about 6 months ago. I have take the boat out 3 times. The first two times it ran fine (maybe a little under powered). It starts right away. This last time the motor seems to be cycling between running fine and wanting to cut off, even at full throtte. I did notice that the priming bulb is pressurized. I can't squeeze it. The boat had been sitting with fuel in the tank for about 6 months before I purchased it. The motor was stored in doors all winter. The oil should have a stablizer in it correct? I have gone about 2/3 of the way thru the old gas/oil mix, replacing it with new fuel. What should I be checking?

Thanks,

bumping your mssg back to the top again,

you have to add stabilizer yourself .

In a nice little engine like that (vs an old clunker) I would ditch the old fuel, check it for water in a glass, ethanol attracts it from the air, it settles out and you get it in the carbs because it settles to the bottom of the tank.
I think stabilizers only prevent the water from stratifying out of the fuel, they don't prevent water getting in the tank.

I ran 10 gallons of old (really old) fuel through my van after syphoning the water away. It was 10% water in a glass. Ran great. 50-1.
