Engine will not come up to speed

I have about a 80-85 merc 115HP . I was running it a couple weeks go and it was fine other than it was alike hard to start had not been taken out for 2 months. Plained out and was going around 35 to 45mph. At that time I ran it out of gas. Dumba**.I put gas init 50 to 1 . Took it out then it started acting up same as before. I have replace the diapham in the fuel pump and rebuild the carbs ( well took them apart cleaned them replaced the seal replaced the fuel filter?? no luck samething . Can anybody help

Do a compression test, check the firing end of the plugs, check for good spark on all cylinders, and in the correct sequence... All the usual basic stuff.... Then get back here with the results. Oh, and a more accurate year, or better, the serial number. We'd also like to know more about revs than mph....

If you find your problems are neither mechanical nor fuel-related, you might think about checking out the stator.

If your year-range is correct, you have ADI (Alternator Driven Ignition) which is known to have problems with stators burning out and causing the exact symptoms you describe.
