I just found a used outdrive to use in my crestiner but I don't know anything about it. The best part is that price is right, its free. It's a strait six cylinder mercruiser and the engine is a GM. I believe it is a early 70's model. I have not seen it and I don't know were I would find any numbers or info so that I could figure out exactly what it is. I assume it is a 250 6. I was told it is 180 hp. Could someone tell me were to look and how to find out more info. I will be going to pick it up in the next couple of days. Thanks.

Re: questions from a rookie

if it's an early 70's L6, a serial number plate should be just above the starter on the engine. the drive s/n is stamped on the mercruiser sticker, if no sticker, it's underneath the sticker stamped into the drive. a mid 70's L6 would be 165hp, a little earlier and it may be 160hp. 180hp sounds like it'd be a 4 cyl. mercruiser engine. it can be id'ed by the stator assy. and the 470's all have fresh water cooled and have a aluminum block and a iron head......
