I Recently Purchased A Fastwin 15 Electric Start Outboard Serial # 15918-04206 And Need Year And Model For Parts And Manual. ALSO IS THERE A RECOMENDED FUEL MIXTURE. I HAVE TRIED 50:1 AND 40:1. I'M HAVING ISSUES AT SLOW(TROLLING) SPEEDS.

15918 is a 1956 15 hp

Unless anyone says anything to the contrary I think that that should run on 24:1
You may need to adjust the slow speed mixture, or the carb may need cleaning.

24:1 87 octane:TC-W3 outboard motor oil is correct. i had one of those motors with out electric start it is a fantastic motor, great torque. if the carb is clean, this should solve your slow issues.

(Carburetor Adjustments - Two Adjustable N/Vs)
(J. Reeves)

Initial settings are: Bottom high speed = seat gently, then open 1 turn out. Top slow speed = seat gently, then open 1-1/2 turns.

Setting the high and low needle valves properly:

NOTE: For engines that DO NOT have a shift selection, obviously there is no NEUTRAL position. Simply lower the rpms to the lowest setting to obtain the low speed needle va /lve adjustment.

(High Speed) Start engine (it will run pretty rough), shift into forward gear, take up to full throttle. In segments of 1/8 turn, wating for the engine to respond between turns, start turning in the bottom high speed needle valve. You'll reach a point whereas the engine will either start to die out or spit back (sounds like a mild backfire). At that point, back out the needle valve 1/4 turn. Within that 1/4 turn, you'll find the smoothest setting.

(Low Speed) Slow the engine down to where it just stays running. Shift into neutral. Again in segments of 1/8 turns, start to turn the top needle valve in. Wait a few seconds for the engine to respond. As you turn the valve in, the rpms will increase. Lower the rpms again to where the engine will just stay running. Eventually you'll hit the point where the engine wants to die out or it will spit back. Again, at that point, back out the valve 1/4 turn. Within that 1/4 turn, you'll find the smoothest slow speed setting.

When you have finished the above adjustments, you will have no reason to move them again unless the carburetor fouls/gums up from sitting, in which case you would be required to remove, clean, and rebuild the carburetor anyway.

I know what is in Joe Reeves article on carb adjustments but isn't the basic setting for older motors only 3/4 turn? Came across it recently when someone quoted the manual!

I suggest a cautious twiddle with the slow running adjustment might be prudent

Re: Fastwin 15 Evinrude Yr/model?

Thanks for the info!! I did find out the yr is a 56 and am in process of ordering a manual. The fuel mixture is probably my main problem. It runs great at high speed and part throttle but just dies when I try to slow enough to troll with it. The engine was recently repaired by a local repair shop but not sure he set the carb with fuel at 24:1. I do need new gears on the trottle control handle. Is there a good web site that might carry the parts?

Thanks again!!

There was a mid-year change to the throttle gears in 1956. Early models used stamped gears, part numbers 376303 and 376416. They worked poorly, which was the reason for the change. The new ones are cast and are part numbers 376691 and 376692. You have to replace both.
376691 is superceded by 377943
376692 is listed as no longer available.

Try www.sea-way.com They have tons of new obsolete parts.
