Okay, so OMC is out.....

How about a Mercruiser 140? Is this better or worse than the OMC 2.3L?

I'm going to make an EDUCATED decision about a boat THIS time.

Are parts readily available for the 140? What exactly is it? Is it a chev 4cyl?

The 140 is the 3 liter engine. Simple, very dependable. Maybe the most common engine available. Parts are plenty and easy to get.

Mercruiser has been using the 140 (aka 3.0L) for 40 years. Parts are everywhere. Along with qualified/certified techs. The Alpha and Pre-Alpha drives also have parts available, and online OEM manuals are available for both the drive and the motors.
