Hello Gguys
Just want to change the carpet of my 1993 SSV190 Glastron Bow Rider. I stop by Home D..ot and there is an Indoor / Outdoor carpet that looks nice and have a rubber backing, just want to know if this one will work fine for boating purposes, I mean you know, going wet and dry. The one installed right now have no backing. Please reply with your opinion.

Thanks

Re: Glastron Floor Carpet

you do not want the rubber it holds water. the have indoor/outdoor area rugs, that can be seamed without the backing.

I thought because of the rubber is a better choice but never saw the issue that the rubber hold the water and you`re right. There is another one without the backing but looks cheapier, maybe installed looks better.

Why are you cheaping out on the carpet? Ever think of putting something in that might last longer?

Re: Glastron Floor Carpet

Well i will speak for Lowes, they have some very high quality indoor/outdoor carpeting without the rubber backing and very reasonable pricing, Some say if you use there out door glue it will bleed thourgh......I have used there out door glue and in this persons opinion the glue is junk...very high temp to cure properly and very slow curing time...I used a PL11 two part urthane glue...dried in 5 hours ...no bleed thourgh no complaints...the same carpet with rubber backing and having the M word on cost almost 3 times as much..;)..Now in 3-4 years from now if the carpet falls apart...I will not spend hours grinding out that urethane....that alone has me excited..:D

Re: Glastron Floor Carpet

I am going for a vinyl floor for my deck. Deco-Dot or similar flooring.

darren ....you need a special covering for that particular boat......search BATSKIN...:D

back on topic....i used a indoor out door from rona with indoor out door glue....had it for five years......i cant remember the name of the glue....but when i ripped out the carpet for the resto....it took all the stregnth i had to pull the carpet up...and in many places the carpet ripped before the glue failed......i saw no bleed thru....and i did use a carpet roller,,,and a block and heavy hammer......

yes...i had to grind some glue off the hull......:(

id say just check out the glue thouroughly before you buy it.....

Actually the last owner redo the floor in wood, at this time I can pull the carpet without effort, it looks that there is no glue at all, maybe in some points, This boat is a very nice good looking and I dont think to change the carpet for vinyl. Regarding the time for glue "cure" maybe it will take less than 5 hrs since in Puerto Rico we have temps over 92 degress everyday.

Right now the back seating of the boat is on the Upholstery shop, it supposed to delivery maybe next Monday, then I will take the bow bolster "Finally I did the pieces" them will install the carpet. The one right now installed have no backing but I see it so "cheapy", thats why Im asked for the rubber backing but you guys are the gurus in this topic so your opinion counts a lot.

Here is the bow bolster molds, PVC 1/8 thick.
