I recently bought a boat with two Mercury motors. But neither has the info plate on them. The older is a 100hp and the newer is 150hp. Can anyone give me a good guess as to the year of each? The older is a straight six and the newer is a v6

Just a guess, as the wraps are interchangeable through many year models.

The older straight 6 appears to be mid to late 60's and should have two (automotive looking) ignition coils. And might range from 80-135?hp

other than the obvious infor plate thats not no these motors, is there any other way to determin their age. I'll look for the ignition coils when I get home.

The tall 6 should have a block part number cast into it. Along with some canine (oops, I meant feline) animal's name such as Tiger.

The V6 is mid 80s... There should be a serial number on the engine block somewhere... either stamped into the top of the block casting, or on an aluminium disc that looks like a freeze plug, near the bottom of the engine block...

Thanks, it's a bit frustrating not knowing the year of either engine. Hopefully I'll be able to find the stamped numbers.

oh by the way, how is the weather down your way? I have an x sister in law that lives in Perth and I lived for three years in Adelaide SA back in the 90s, great place.
