Yep...the auction site has been kinda slack here lately. I think it's because folks North of St. Louis are trying to squeeze in all the "outdoors" time the can before the weather closes in/up. Plus, our wonderful economy isn't doing much for the "toy" trade...any kind of toy.

Ebay has made it harder and harder for sellers, I'm afraid. That and the hassle of dealing with something as large as an outboard seem to have driven a lot of sellers to other outlets, like Craig's List.

At least where I am, Craig's List is the default outlet for used outboards. Plenty of smaller Johnnyrudes on the one in the Twin Cities. Our boating season is just about done, and the boat and outboard ads are really picking up now, with prices going down.

That's odd. Maybe it's just a glitch in the supply. Or maybe we all need to start talking trash about older johnnyrudes so folks will think they're worthless. ;)

I have noticed recently a rash of smaller outboards on the west coast of Florida, and down in Key West. There are tools on the web that allow you to do regional searches on different craigslist sites. Since I regularly drive down to Miami, I comb all the craigslist sites between Chattanooga and Key West.

whats up tash i search ebay a lot as well .
right now there showing 91 under 100 horses
but the prices are terrible and most are not in great shape
here in louisiana we always have a shortage

small boats are abundant in fiberglass down here but trailers and alum. boats are hard to come by

craigslist around here as well. Not too many there or ebay. The ones that are there they want too much for a motor that ran great for Grandpa. There are still some deals to be had though.

omc here too. Guy has a 1960 10hp on craigslist here now for 200 but doesn't say if it runs. I find on Craigslist here you can buy a boat motor and trailer cheaper than the motor alone. course you got to have a place for the boat and trailer until you get rid of it.

Re: What's Happening, used J/E motor supply has dried up

I saw the same ebay thing happen with model airplane engines. 5 yrs ago there used to be 10x as many as now. The number of auctions has been shrinking every yr. My thinking is all the surplus engines, NOS and stuff sitting idle in the corner of garages for yrs has finally been found and sold. All the warehouses sitting with dated inventories have already been found and auctioned. Now we are seeing the day to day stuff on auction...and as posted already, Craigslist is where everyone sells stuff now and where the good deals are.

Re: What's Happening, used J/E motor supply has dried up

Here in Illinois, I have noticed a shortage of small fishing engines, 25hp and less. I guess J/E (Bombardier) decision, for now not to build any engine less than 25hp, has some bearing on this. I was talking to a J/E dealer recently, and they continue to be upset with these people, requiring them to order a minumum of (10)engines of whatever horsepower they want. They can no longer group horsepowers to meet their minimum ordering requirements. I stopped at a guys shop, retired recently, that fixes up old outboards and sells them in his yard. He had a nice Evinrude 6 HP of the 1970's that he wanted $425.00 for. He will probably get it.
